Teen and Adolescent Counselling - Gold Coast
The high use of technology has created a stream of thought where comparisons to other people through social media is the norm. This increases the criticism of self and others in a type of judgement that never really turns off: This 24 hour social comparison causes anxiety and depression. Thoughts like, “I am not popular enough.” ”I fear that no one likes me...” “I feel sad and left out...”
Managing social pressure from school, friends, relationships and family can be overwhelming as a teen. High school is a hot cauldron of good and bad interactions. Not fitting in in high school can be like the ultimate social death; and this is not to be underestimated: It is common for teens to feel insecure and worry about being liked, fitting in and being accepted. It is a vulnerable time because a teen really cements their new ‘adult identity’ in this place of learning: Bullying in high school can cause post traumatic stress for life.
On top of these pressures (which can be felt acutely each day a teen goes to school), there may be existing issues with family disputes (divorced families), finances, abuse, drugs and alcohol, eating disorders, teen pregnancy, mental health issues, learning difficulties or disabilities, stress, depression and anxiety.

In April 2017, a joint report by Mission Australia and the Black Dog Institute found nearly one in four Australian teenagers met the criteria for having a ‘probable serious mental illness’ - a 20% increase from five years ago. This means it is an epidemic!

Teen Testimonial: "I have been wanting some closure with my Dad for years. I was young when he passed over. I wanted to talk about it. My session was a great relief. I was really emotional." - Bridie (Individual Counselling, Palm Beach).
★★★★★ Google Review: Teen Counselling and NLP
'Ghita was very friendly and professional. She gave me many different methods to cope with anxiety, for both on the go and at home. I see her on the regular. Each time I go I feel as though I understand my own anxiety better, as well as how to keep my brain and well being happy and healthy.' - Luna Anais (Morningside)
