Counselling is a form of 'talk therapy' where you talk in confidence with a counsellor about the issues you are facing in your life. Counselling provides the chance to talk things through, very often relieving emotional pressure, clearing the way for people to focus and decide what to do next. Counselling can provide a sense of direction and a greater ability to achieve goals. Just like you seek advice from a doctor for health issues, a counsellor can help to give you tools for better decision making and improved mental health.
What is Life Coaching?
Life Coaching is more about concentrating on Cause and Effect. If you believe you are responsible for the events and decisions in your life, things go easier. If you believe that things are done to you and you are not responsible for your choices, things are more difficult. Life Coaching will create goals, clarify your direction and remove the limiting beliefs and old grievances which are holding you back.
It is for this reason, that everyday men, women turn to counselling and coaching when they need support, or are at a crossroads in their lives. People who come to Ghita Therapy are often ready to change and grow, and just need a little guidance and someone to talk to.

In this modern age, it is easy to neglect self care like you are pouring from an empty cup. If you are constantly juggling work, kids, family, finances, and more, you’ll quickly end up burnt out – with less in your emotional cup. An empty cup means your ability to care for others will be non-existent when you don’t even have the time or energy to care for yourself. Sound familiar?
Usually, our default mindset is: “Well, I’m coping right now, I can just get through the day and deal with it later.” But so often we put it off again, and again, and again, until one day we reach for our cup and find that it is completely empty. We ask ourselves, “How did it get this bad?”, and we wonder why we didn’t do anything about it sooner.

Can I Attend my Session via Video or Phone?
Certainly! We offer both Telehealth options for counselling. In fact, online sessions can be just as effective and provide greater accessibility, especially for those with busy schedules, mobility issues, or those who live outside of driving distance. *Specialised therapies require face to face sessions.
How Do I Prepare For My First Counselling Session?
It can be helpful to make some notes about the things that are troubling you and bring them to your appointment. If you have a GP referral letter for an individual concession rate – bring that to your session. You may also like to save time and fill out the online intake form.
In your first intake session, your counsellor will be looking forward to meeting you and getting to know who you are and what you want out of your time in therapy. Your counsellor will look at your intake form for things like family background, mental health history and general situation. From there, they will work with you to create clear goals around what you’ll work on together in your sessions.

How Many Appointments Will I Need?
The first appointment is primarily focussed on understanding what is happening for you and determining how we may be of assistance. On average you can expect to see positive outcomes within 3-6 sessions, with appointments generally 1-2 weeks apart on average at first, then tapering in frequency depending on needs. More complex issues may require a longer time frame. We advise booking 1-2 follow-up appointments in advance to ensure optimal treatment is accessible should you choose to utilise it.

How Do I Pay For My Appointment?
Credit Card, Paypal, Bank Transfer or Cash. To ensure as much time as possible is available for your appointment, payment is processed at the time of your booking. Payments via the online booking system accept credit card only. Payments via phone are via Paypal, Credit Card or Bank Transfer.
Over the years, we have found that clients can feel emotional during a session, or in the case of hypnotherapy, clients may have trouble concentrating straight afterwards, so we prefer not to ask for payment after appointments.
If you are booking a session with Kathie or prefer to pay via Paypal, Bank Transfer or Cash, please tell us your preference when booking over the phone.

What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychological treatment that enables people to heal from the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic attacks, depression and severe anxiety.

EMDR is one of only two therapeutic interventions recommended by the World Health Organisation for the treatment of PTSD, alongside Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). EMDR therapy is increasingly also used for the treatment of other anxiety-based disorders.
Eye Movement Desensitisation (EMDR)

Ghita Therapy Latest News:
A big thanks to Coolangatta Surf Club (seen here with Manager Steve) for letting Ghita talk to staff about the importance of mental health balance. And as you know, hospitality is a stressful industry. The CSLS Club went through a lot with the border closures during Covid19 and they are always busy when the Cooly Rocks On Festival is in town.
The Coolangatta Surf Lifesaving Club club offers their staff up to three counselling sessions under their Employee Assisted Program with us. And the feedback from staff to us has been phenomenal.
Ghita Therapy is the designated counselling service for Gold Coast Surf Clubs at Coolangatta and Palm Beach. This amazing 'mental health first-aid' concept by Cooly Management for Gold Coast Surf Clubs will no doubt go viral.
CSLS club also offer their staff gym joining fees to keep staff stress levels down. When a lot of companies are removing their HR departments and employees are feeling workplaces are becoming less humanistic, this team are working on keeping their staff as happy as possible. Bravo!
