grief and loss counselling.

"The 5 stages of grief are denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. However, they don't always occur in order."

Loss is a fact of life, and so are the reactions that follow, but the grief that accompanies significant loss is frequently misunderstood because not everyone acts the same after loss. The grief you feel for the loss of a loved one is as unique as you are. Sometimes, it feels like too much of a burden to talk over feelings and fears with our families, because they have to deal with their own feelings and fears. This is when an intuitive counsellor can help by listening, validating and understanding.

The five stages of grief
The five stages of grief are denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. As we learn to live with the one we lost, we use certain tools to help us frame and identify what we may be feeling. But they are not stops on some linear timeline in grief. Not everyone goes through all of them or in a prescribed order. At times, people in grief will often report more stages.

The Best Things to Say to Someone in Grief
  • I am so sorry for your loss.
  • I wish I had the right words, just know I care.
  • I don’t know how you feel, but I am here to help in any way I can.
  • You and your loved one will be in my thoughts and prayers.
  • My favourite memory of your loved one is…
  • I am always just a phone call away.
  • Give a hug instead of saying something.
  • We all need help at times like this, I am here for you.
  • I am usually up early or late, if you need anything.
  • Saying nothing, just being there for the person.
