Art Therapy for Mental Health First Aid
In Australia, one in five adults will experience a common mental illness in any given year. Furthermore, in the last few years the divorce rate has increased to 40%. Since covid, most of us at some point have experienced a work colleague, family member or friend experiencing a mental illness, financial problem or a relationship breakdown. It is because of this that more and more organisations are prioritising mental health education, so that staff (and their family members) know how to support when help is needed. One such organisation is Australian Surf Life Saving on the Gold Coast.
"Creating a mentally healthy workplace should no longer be considered a peripheral concern for leaders. It is something that needs to be at the core of successful, thriving organisations.”
– Professor Samuel Harvey, Chief Scientist, Black Dog Institute
Ghita Andersen is a the Official Counsellor for the Southern Area Gold Coast Surf Life Saving Clubs. She is also a Couples Counsellor, Family Dispute Resolution Mediator, Author and Trainer. Ghita facilitates workshops with small groups of industry staff (Max 15 - one on one) to give them extraordinary TOOLKITS that they can use at work or at home. Similar to the Mental Health First Aid concept, but with an added bonus of Art Therapy. Furthermore, not only does Ghita talk about mental health stigma and awareness, but she also creates person-centred toolkits that workers can use for improved work communication and importantly to maintain and repair their personal relationships.

★★★★★ Google Review: Employee Workshop: 'Ghita is intuitive, supportive, emotionally aware and empathetic, I would recommend her. She has two teenagers so I think that nurturing energy comes naturally for her. I feel at ease talking to her as she can see what is really going on and she enjoys helping people.' - Adam Stockdale (Melbourne)
