HOMEWORK: Couples Exercises Between Sessions

Exercise One: Connecting
Both write these individually.
  • When do you feel most appreciated by me?
  • What do you miss about how we used to connect?
  • What is something small that I can do during the week that makes you feel SEEN.

​Face each other and read your paper to each other, one answer at a time.

Exercise Two: Trust Building 
First person says:
"One thing I'm afraid to tell you, but I need to tell you is..."

Second person says:
"Thank you for telling me. That matters to me."

​Swap roles.

Exercise Three: ​ Feeling Disrespected
First person says:
"I feel disrespected by you when..."

​Second person takes it in and then says:
​"When you feel disrespected, what would help you to feel better?"

Exercise Three: Setting Boundaries
Both write these individually.

"In my relationship, I believe my role is..."

"To feel safe in this relationship I need your role to include..."

​Face each other and read your paper to each other.

Breathwork Exercise:
Try to breathe in-synch and mirror each other's body language.

​Eye Gazing Exercise (3 minutes no talking)
Face each other. Stare into each other's eyes. Imagine that you have a lovely peach bridge between your hearts and it is vibing and glowing.

Daily Reconnection Hour (30 -60 minutes)
Phones off / TV off
Children in bed
  • Talk about shared hopes and dreams. Shared projects and holidays.
  • Practice 'Active Listening' learned in session. Speak in 'I' statements.
  • Use marriage conversation topic cards to create Love Maps and learn about each other.
  • Lie on floor on tummies facing each other very close and talk in toddler talk. Very simple language.
  • Play a board game.
  • Work through a Pre-Marital Agreement Checklist (PDF) to negotiate relationship rules.
  • Do the other exercises on this page.

Planning a Date Night:
  • Take turns in planning a date night.
  • Plan a quarterly getaway.
  • Plan something fun to forget responsibility. Add in some novelty and spontaneity.
  • Book a Tantric course or Couples Retreat
